Well-ventilated ski/snowboard helmet with ABS and EPS foam, and with Multi-Directional Impact Protection System (MIPS). MIPS was developed in order to provide additional protection against forces of rotational motion that are transferred to the brain in the event of angled impact. Angled impact is the most common form of impact when falling, regardless of whether the fall is from (e.g.) a bicycle, skis or a horse. Rotational motion is a combination of rotational energy and rotational forces generated by the angled acceleration, which both affect the brain and increase the risk of (mild or severe) brain damage. When installed in a helmet, the MIPS protective system has been shown to reduce the rotational motion by redirecting the energies and forces that would otherwise be transferred to the brain. The helmet also has a soft lining, padding around the chinstrap to reduce friction, and size-adjustment at the neck to ensure the best fit.
